Work and Wages

Question 01

A, B and C together earn Rs. 300 per day, while A and C together earn Rs. 188 and B and C together earn Rs. 152. The daily earning of C is

Given:
A + B + C = 300 ………………………. (i)

A + C = 188

A = 188 – C …………………………….. (ii)

B + C = 152

B = 152 – C ………………………… (iii)

Substituting above values of A and B in eq (i);

188 – C + 152 – C + C = 300

340 – C = 300 C = 340 – 300 = Rs. 40

Question 02

If A can do ¼ of a work in 3 days and B can do 1/6 of the same work in 4 days, how much will A get if both work together and are paid Rs. 180 in all?

A’s 3 days work = ¼
Thus, A’s 1 day work =1/(3*4) = 1/12

B’s 4 day’s work = 1/6
Thus, B’s 1 day work = ¼ × 1/6 = 1/24

Therefore, they are paid in the ratio 1/12 : 1/24 = 2:1

Therefore, A’s share = 2/(1+2) × 180 = Rs. 120

Question 03

A sum of money is sufficient to pay A’s wages for 21 days and B’s wages for 28 days. The same money is sufficient to pay the wages of both for:

Let the required sum be Rs. x
A’s per day wage = Rs. x/21
B’s per day wage = Rs. x/28

(A + B)’s per day wage = Rs.  (x/21) + (x/28) = Rs. x/12

Thus, number of days that (A+B)’s wage can be paid with amount x => x / (x/12)  => 12 days

(04) If 6 persons working 8 hours a day earn Rs. 8400 per week, then 9 persons working 6 hours a day will earn per week:

6 Person –> 8 Hours –> Rs 8400 per week earning
9 Persons –> 6 Hours –> Find the earings

Let the required amount be Rs. x

Using the formula, we can easily solve this question
