In this post we will learn about important two dimensional shapes like circle, square, rectangle etc.
First we will understand the basic dimension and property of the shapes.
After that we will solve some worksheets which is as per the standard of Grade 1 Math curriculum.
What are shapes?
Shapes are basically outer boundary of any objects.
There are various shapes like rectangle, circle, square, etc. which look different to each other.
Let us learn some of the important shapes.
Please note that all the below shapes are also known as Polygons.
Shape of Triangle
Its a shape with 3 sides.
You can see triangle shape in various objects of daily life.
Below you can see Watermelon slice, Pizza slice and Traffic signs, all are triangle in shape.
Shape of Square
It’s a shape with 4 sides.
All sides are equal in length
In the real life you will find many square shapes.
Below given objects like Dice, Chessboard and Clock are square in shape
Shape of Rectangle
Its a shape with 4 side.
In Rectangle, opposing sides are equal
Below is the image of rectangle
Here, side 1 is equal to side 3
and, side 2 is equal to side 4
Some of the real examples of rectangular shapes are chalkboard, television and notebook
Shape of Rhombus
Its a shape having 4 sides with all sides equal to each other.
Rhombus is different from square as in rhombus the angle between sides can be be different than 90 degree.
Rhombus basically looks like a shape of diamond.
Some of the example of rhombus are Kites, Diamonds etc..
Shape of Pentagon
Its a shape with 5 sides
Shape of Hexagon
Its a shape with 6 sides
Shape of Circle
Its a shape with no sides.
You can see the above figure, it has no sides.
Some of the objects in the form of circle is given below:
