Train Questions: Crossing a Bridge/Platform

Question 01

How long does a train 110 meters long running at a speed of 72 km/hr. take to cross a bridge 132 meters in length?

Given, Length of the train = 110 meter

Length of the bridge = 132 meter

                            Total Length = (110 + 132) = 242 meter

                    Speed of the train = 72 km/hr.

                                                 = 72 x  (5/18)  meter/sec.   = 20 meter/sec.

Since, Speed of the train =     (Length of the train + Length of the bridge)/Time taken to cross the bridge

Therefore, Time taken    =        (Total Length/Speed of the train)

                                                =  (242/20)  Sec.

                                                = 12.1 seconds.
