In this post we will learn how to do subtraction using number lines. The purpose of using this tool is to make student understand the concept of subtraction.

(1) Subtract 10 – 4 using number line
1. First we will mark the number 10 and start hopping towards left side
2. As we have to subtract 4, so we have to hop four times
3. After hopping towards left we will reach number 6 which is our answer
(2) Subtract 16 – 9 using number line
1. First we will mark the number 16 and start hopping towards left side
2. As we have to subtract 9, so we have to hop nine times
3. After hopping towards left we will reach number 7 which is our answer
(3) Subtract 15 – 3 – 6
1. First we will mark the number 15 and start hopping towards left side
2. As we have to subtract 6, so we have to hop six times
3. Then we have to again subtract 3, so we have to hop again three times in left direction
4. we get 6 as final answer
(4) Perform 16 – 4 – 3 + 2 using number line
This question involves both addition and subtraction.
In order to solve the question, do the following steps
a. Rearranging numbers as
16 + 2 – 4 – 3
b. we have to add 2 by hopping 2 units towards the right
c. Then we have to subtract number 4 by hopping 4 units towards the left
d. Then again we have to subtract number 3 by hopping towards left
