In this post we will learn to round off decimal to tenth place.
Why to Round Decimals?
Suppose below decimal number is given to you.
The given number is too large to write multiple times and is also complicated for calculation.
So instead of writing the complete number we will take the approximate value.
While rounding decimal to tenth place, we take the approximate value of decimal till one number after decimal ( i.e. tenth place )
The approximate value of above decimal is;
Method to round decimal to nearest tenth
As said earlier, we will find the approximate value of decimal till tenth place.
To do the rounding off, follow the below steps;
(a) Check the number after the tenth place ( i.e. hundredth place)
If hundredth place number ⟹ 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
If the number is 5 or greater than 5, then we will round up the tenth place number by 1
If hundredth place number ⟹ 0, 1, 2, 3, 4
If number is less than 5, then we will leave the tenth place number as it is.
(b) Remove all the number after tenth place.
Given below are solved examples for your understanding.
Example 01
Round off decimal to tenth place.
63.79862
Solution
Check the number in hundredth place.
Hundredth Place Value ⟹ 9
We will round up the tenth place value by 1 and remove all the numbers after that.
Hence, 63.8 is the final solution.
Note:
The round off number is just an approximate value which is used to make calculation easier.
Example 02
Round off number to nearest tenth place.
100.049254716
Solution
Check the number in hundredth place.
Hundredth Place Value ⟹ 4
Here we will leave the tenth place value as it is and remove rest of the numbers beyond tenth place.
Hence, 100.0 is the final solution.
Example 03
Round off the decimal to tenth place.
6785.253
Solution
Check the number in hundredth place.
Number in hundredth place ⟹ 5
We will add up the number in tenth place by 1 and remove rest of the numbers beyond it.
Hence, 6785.3 is the roundoff number.
Example 04
Round off the below decimals to tenth place
1001. 635943
Solution
Check the number in hundredth place.
Number in hundredth place ⟹ 3
The number is less than 5, so we leave the tenth place value number as it is.
Hence, 1001.6 is the final solution.
Example 05
Round off decimals to tenth place.
1.08487
Solution
Check the number in hundredth place.
Hundredth Place value ⟹ 8
Since the number is greater than 5, we will increase tenth place value by 1.
Hence, 1.1 is the required roundoff number.
