Question 01

A train 110 m long is running with a speed of 60 kmph. In what time will it pass a man who is running at 6 kmph in the direction opposite to that in which the train is going?

Given: Length of train = 110m

Speed of train = 60 kmph

Speed of man = 6 kmph

Now, Speed of train relative to man = (60 + 6) kmph (add since both are running opposite to each other)

                                                           = 66 kmph

                                                           = 66x (1000/3600) = 55/3 m/sec

Therefore, time taken to pass the man = distance/speed = 110/ (55/3)                                                                                          = 6 sec
Train will take 6 sec to pass through the man
