In this post we will try to understand concept of addition and will try to practice some of the addition problems which are to the level of Grade 1 Math.
Before moving on to the below concept, understand that in order to understand addition, it is prerequisite that you have clear understanding of numbers series and counting. My sincere request to all the kids is to first learn the basic concept of number system then start with the concept of addition
Concept of Addition
Addition is basically taking two or more numbers and then combining it into one.
Let us understand the concept with the help of examples
Example 01
Suppose you have three tennis balls with you.
A friend comes to your house and gives you one of his tennis ball as a gift.
Now how many tennis balls do you have?
Here we will combine the tennis balls together: 3 + 1 (gift) = 4
Now you have 4 tennis balls with you.
Example 02
Suppose you have 5 chocolates with you.
Your sister comes to the house and brings 4 chocolates for you.
Now how any chocolates do you have?
After combining all the chocolates ⟹ 5 + 4 = 9
You have 9 chocolates with you
Example 03
Suppose you have one apple with you
Your mother gave you two more apples for your lunch
How much apples do you have?
After combining all the apples ⟹ 1 + 2 = 3
You now have 3 apples
Sign of Addition
In order to add the two numbers we use ” + ” symbol.
Example
Suppose we are adding two numbers 4 and 6. This can be expressed as:
4 + 6 = 10
The above expression means addition of 4 & 6 equals to 10
Where symbol ” = ” means “equal to”
