Average of Groups

Question 01

The average age of 35 students in a class is 16 years. The average age of 21 students is 14. What is the average age of remaining 14 students?

Given:
Average age of 35 students = 16 years
Average age of 21 students = 14

To find:
Average age of remaining 14 students

Average of 35 students = sum of age of all students/ no. of students
16 = Sum/ 35
Sum of age of all students = 16 x 35 —(1)

Average age of 21 students = sum of age of 21 students/ 21
Sum of age of 21 students = 14 x 21 — (2)

Hence,
Sum of age of 14 students = Sum of age of 35 students – Sum of age of 21 Student
= (16 * 35) – (14*21) = 266

Average of age of 14 students = sum of age of 14 students/ 14
average of 14 students = (266)/ 14
= 19 years

Ans. Therefore, the average age of 14 students is 19 years.
